The King in Green
God of the Sun, Light, Strength, and Healing, Pelor is known as the Shining One, and the Sun Father. His holy symbol is a face in a sun. Pelor is a popular deity, much-beloved by the commonfolk, and the central figure in most (if not all) Central Oerth harvest and fertility rituals, owing to the activities of the Orthodox Union of Pelor in the region.
The official title of the church of Pelor is: The Orthodox Union of Pelor, the words Church, Pelorian, Orthodoxy, and others all generally refer to the Orthodox Union of Pelor.
Pelorians believe that the life-giving sun is the best cure for all of Oerth’s ills. Justice and freedom are brought about through charity, modesty, perseverance, and self-sacrifice. Pelor’s priests teach that the truly strong don’t need to prove their power. Pelorians strive to perform so many good acts that evil has no room in which to exist, though they will fight if necessary. Pelor is wrathful against the forces of evil, and is especially opposed to the undead. However, Pelor urges his followers to remember that excessive attention to things of evil can blind one to the truly important things: compassion and goodness. These are what must be emphasized above all.
According to the Orthodox Union of Pelor, all other gods beside Pelor are false; any statement or historical record to the contrary is heresy brought on either through ignorance or malice.
Pelor’s clergy heal the sick, bless crops, help the needy, and are tasked with destroying evil and the undead. They are commonly viewed as caring and nurturing, with backbones of steel.
Pelor’s orthodox clergy are extremely stratified and hierarchical in nature. Religious ranks may be categorized into a few classes. See: Hierarchy of Orthodox Union of Pelor
Clerics – Pelor’s clerics are called a Radiant Servant. These clerics have been granted great powers of Pelor’s divine strength, a rare candle in these dark times—lighting the way for all.
